We are considering a 1998 Moody 40 and 2000 and 2002 Moody 42. Deck layout and Interior space appears to be identical. Does anyone know how the "two" feet were used and if there are any other appreciable differences?

The extra space is in the Aft cabin, and additional deck storage. You are welcome to look around my M42 which is for sale...see for sale adverts

And a M42 looks better than the M40 in terms of its lines (IMHO)

There may be a difference in shower layout. The M40 had 2 layouts. The latter (Mk 2) is common to the 42 which has a separate shower enclosure to avoid getting the bathroom wet. From my wife's point of view that is a significant improvement.

The locker space on the M42 is far better.

You can inflate a dingy on the rear deck of a 42 the same is not so for a 40.

Thank you to all those replied. Yes, the M42 has a separate shower in the aft head and substantially larger aft deck area. We did indeed settle on the M42. Best regards, Mark

Mark, we are looking at the 1998 Moody 40 in Newburyport. How have you found the 42 to behave in light air in RI? We live in Portland...I am wondering if there is any difference in the sail plan between a 40 and 42. Thanks. Steve

I understand that the original sail plan is the same on the 40 and 42.

Steve, The I-J-P-E for each is the same and are listed below. We haven't had her out in light air yet, but I think I have my expectations in the right place (not very high). Attached is the worksheet I used to compare the two from Nigel Calder's Cruising manual, which you may find a useful tool. The Newburyport boat is a nice boat. Well maintained and some nice features. If you have any other questions, let me know. Good luck. Mark
