Moody 29 Buying a Moody 29 and sailing to Cork, Ireland.

Hello everyone, I am very close to beginning the pre-purchase survey on an M29 on the South coast near Isle of Wight. I have sailed a M31 around the South West coast of Ireland over the last 6 years and just fell in love with the moody boats.
Once I purchase the boat I will be bringing her to Ireland and my question is around this trip. I have sailed 29ft boats before from Cyprus to turkey many times so I'm sure the moody is more than capable of the trip, however I would love to hear from people who may have made a similar trip and for people who sail a moody 29 what are your thoughts on sailing this boat on such a route. I'm planning on May for the trip and have two main plans, primary is three or four stops before Scilly Isles, then a straight shot for home. I saw a very useful post on Moody 29's and there was some very good information in there.

Thanks for your time all and look forward to reading your replies.

Hi Paddy,
I have owned my M29 for 30 years. I have not sailed it on your planned trip but have crossed the channel including the Channel Islands and sailed west. I love it. Despite a few minor issues, I think Moody's were well built and are much stronger than the modern generation of yachts. As you will be aware, the M29 is very spacious for a boat of that size, ideal for two and comfortable for four persons. They sail well, but not a sporty performance. They don't heel much and keep you dry. I would suggest reefing the main early and not trying to pinch too much to windward in any kind of waves, as the high buoyancy tends to get slowed down in big waves, so keep it moving.
Good luck
Paul
