Wanted Eclipse 33

Patrick Winterschladen

Temporary Member
Open to any model, Mk I or II, fin or bilge keel.
We live in Annapolis, Maryland so a boat on the East Coast of the US, or the Caribbean or Canada would be ideal though we don’t expect to find one this side of the Atlantic!
As I am British a boat in the UK would be our next choice, but we would certainly be interested in a boat in the EU or Med.
If we find the right boat we plan to sail in UK or European waters for a season, possibly two, before shipping her west.
Please contact me at patrick@winterschladen.com. Follow up could be on FaceTime or WhatsApp.

These are the only two I am aware of that are currently for sale via brokers, but the adverts ahve been around a while, so they may be legacy listings by now...

Andrew posted that he is listing his soon

Thanks Alex,
I have had a long and useful conversation with Andrew about his boat Temptation and also with the brokers of Caranna in Inverkip - looks like I need to book a flight to Glasgow soon! Ihave also talked with Colin Smith about Alouette in Christchurch.
All three look promising but I have to see if the eventual cost of shipping to the US really makes sense so still hoping to find that unicorn - an Eclipse 33 on this side of the pond.

I would be interested to know if any E33s have made it to the Americas. We have plans to head through the European waterways to the Med, but the Great American Loop also looks interesting and the Eclipse could be a very suitable vessel. Let me know if you find any shipping costs...!

Hi Alex,
I need some dimensions to get a shipping quote - particularly the overall height of the E33, bottom of the keel to highest point of the cabin top and the length of the mast. Dimension “I” is given as 12.2 metres on sailboatdata.com but the mast may be slightly shorter than this Mast length has a major impact on shipping costs as for RoRo this is multiplied by height and beam for the total volume.
My experience shipping boats from the UK is very dated - over 20 years ago - and mostly Cornish Crabbers and Shrimpers typically in containers or on container flat racks. I did import a Crabber Pilot Cutter 30 for a customer and that was shipped RoRo, I think from Harwich but maybe it was Southampton. That boat was craned off the Ro-Ro trailer into Baltimore Harbour and I motored her down to Annapolis which saved some trucking and travel lift costs - perhaps $1500 at the time. That might not be a great option with an E33 - being gaff rigged the Pilot Cutter mast was about the same length as the boat. There may be deck cargo options where the boat comes alongside the ship and is craned on fully rigged which would greatly reduce ancillary costs but I am not sure of the available routes apart from between the Med and Caribbean.
