Moody 47 Removable inner forestay

Dear All
Considering a M47 from 2002.
Whilst I know most came with a cutter rig, running backstays and self tacking gear.
The one we are interested in has a removable inner forestay, attached to the mast just below the forestay. It does not have a furler on the inner stay, nor running backs, nor self tacking.
Has any other member have this system, have you fitted a furler to the inner, or made any changes etc to this section of the rig?
Your thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks Simon

Hi Simon and what type of sailing you looking I do as a cutter rig has pros and cons compared to a sloop with a removable inner forestay?

Hi Lee
We are looking to cross Atlantic and Pacific to Asia.....and alot in between....but generally following tropical trade wind areas.....definitely no Southern Ocean stuff!!!

Hi simon,

well a staysail of some sort (even a removable inner forestay type) will be an aid as will allow you to have more sail options etc

Main issue we have with the fixed cutter rig is tacking the boat due to the yankee sail sometimes getting caught on the furled staysail. There are ways round this however such as unfurl the staysail to allow the yankee to slide over or furl in some of the yankee.

As for you other posts, I can not recommend a Hydrovane enough and I fitted the one on our boat and will try to get some pics for you to add to your other post.
