I have recently replaced the engine on my 376 and have a number of spares available for the Thornycroft T80.
In particular I have a spare reconditioned gearbox which has never been fitted which is available. ASAP and others charge around £800 for a reconditioned gearbox I am looking for £400 + postage. I am located in Felixstowe if you want to collect.

Hi Andy

I have an Eclipse 33 with a ZF10 gearbox. I believe this is the same as the Hurth and so would be interested in buying it.

Do you know what was replaced during the refurb?
I assume the -2R means its a right hand rotation, is this the case.

I am currently on board and only go online once a day, so forgive me for being slow to reply.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Helen

Hello Helen

I have the reciept from the previous owner. who bought a new gearbox for the engine and had the old gearbox reconditioned by Freedom Marine Ltd as a spare. They paid in 2012 £493.20 for the refurbishment and it has sat as a spare gearbox ever since, still with the works tag on it. They paid Lancing marine £680.40 for the new gearbox. I can send you both reciepts if you like so you can assure yourself about the history.

I googled it and came up with this
A Hurth HBW 100-2R gearbox is a marine transmission, specifically a reversing gearbox, designed for use in boats. The "HBW 100" designates the size and model, and the "-2R" indicates a 2:1 gear ratio, meaning the engine speed is reduced by half when the gearbox is engaged in reverse. These gearboxes are known for their reliability and are often used in larger boats.

Maybe you could put something in the technical forum, I feel sure there is someone out there who could eplain it.

Helen,
The ZF is not an exact alternative/replacement for the Hurth as the gear ratios are different and changing from ZF to Hurth or more usually from Hurth to ZF usually requires an adjustment to the propeller pitch to compensate.

Hi Jeff

Thank you for the manual downloads, they were very helpful.

The boat originally had a Hurth gearbox with 1.79 and 1.86 ratios. This was changed to the ZF10 which has 2.04 and 1.86 ratios. I think the gearbox here will take things back to where they were originally as the top speed with the ZF seems to be over revving the engine.

Thanks again for your help

Best wishes

Helen
